Gameplay[]

A new gameplay system is introduced in Euro Truck Simulator 2. The player is required to create a profile and choose a city as their headquarters.

Early in the game, the player must complete quick jobs to save up money and credit to afford a truck of their own.

As the player completes more jobs, the player earns skill points to invest in one of the six skills available; for example, allowing them to haul more valuable freight, or allowing them to take longer deliveries.

Later in the game, players may also purchase additional trucks, garages, and hire NPC drivers from a recruitment agency to expand their trucking business.

For people on Steam, various Achievements can be unlocked while playing.

Countries[]

The base game includes many countries featured in previous titles. The map and simulated European roadway are more detailed than in previous games, and features more cities. New countries, such as Luxembourg and Slovakia are introduced.

Base Map Rework[]

The maps of Germany and the United Kingdom are derived from German Truck Simulator and UK Truck Simulator, respectively. Most of the parts and countries of the base map are logically as old as the game itself, which becomes obvious through outdated assets and simple level design. These areas notably lack the quality of regions featured in more recent DLCs, such as the Scandinavia DLC and the Italia DLC. On May 23, 2018, SCS announced on their blog plans to rework parts of the old map, starting with northern Germany.[1] Following the release of version 1.40 on March 24, 2021, the German motorway network has now been fully reworked to modern standards but rural roads as well as most cities were just reskinned. On August 1, 2021, SCS announced that they planned to rework old parts of Austria, after rework of Germany.[2] Following the release of version 1.44 on May 12, 2022, all parts of Austria have now been fully reworked from scratch. One version later with update 1.45, the first fully reworked German city of Hannover was released.[3] On September 6, 2022, SCS announced that they planned to rework Switzerland, after Austria was fully reworked in update 1.44.[4] Two versions later with update 1.47, the four fully reworked German cities of Stuttgart, Nürnberg, Erfurt, and Frankfurt am Main were released.[5] One version later with update 1.48, another four fully reworked German cities of Hamburg, Kiel, Rostock, and Travemünde were released. In update 1.48.5, the port-city of Trieste was added to Italy in the base game.

A small team of map designers is working on this project, which is offered for free but in irregular updates.
